This submission for Google’s 10 to the 100th competition proposes deploying used shipping containers as emergency and homeless housing around the world. There are more of these used containers that are out of the fleet circulation than there are homeless people on the planet. Our design makes use of these wasted resources, to provide much-needed shelter for those most desperate. The design successfully operates 100% “off-grid”, with solar panels, rainwater collection on the roof, and a composting toilet. Each unit can be made for under $10,000.
